Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In the Loerch lab we appreciate the value of diversity in opinion, thought and background. We know that a diverse collection of ideas, experiences, and backgrounds fosters creativity, improves our communication, and makes us better scientists. We understand that diversity has many facets and that inclusivity and equity requires addressing individual needs regarding cultural backgrounds, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion. We will provide an inclusive and open-minded environment in our lab and will strive to make everyone feel safe, welcome, and accepted.
In the Loerch Lab we:
- Do work we are proud of individually and as a group.
- Are careful, thorough, and rigorous.
- Are supportive—we succeed and we fail as a lab.
- Listen.
- Are independent when possible, but ask for help when necessary.
- Communicate honestly but compassionately.
- Respect each others strengths, weaknesses, differences, and beliefs.
- Share our knowledge.
- Practice our mentorship skills. We look out for those more junior.
- Are patient. Including with our PI. (I will forget things you just talked about and will ask you the same questions over and over. TikTok Link: @professorbren)
- Advocate for our own and others’ needs
